Build strength. Move well. Support your practice.
Tuesdays | 7:30–8:30am | with Josh Bolding
Strength training for yoga can help us develop greater stability, resilience and control, supporting not only our practice on the mat but how well we move through everyday life. Building strength across a wide range of movement patterns can also support postural health and bone density, helping us to continue moving well through all stages of life.
Yoga develops strength in many ways, but adding external load and resistance gives us another way to challenge the body and build capacity. Strength for Yoga brings the two together, combining familiar elements of yoga practice with functional strength training in a way that feels considered, progressive and very much at home at Lime House.
Josh uses bodyweight, dumbbells, ropes, rings and resistance bands to explore a broad range of movement patterns, building strength that translates back into your yoga practice as well as everyday life.

Adding strength training for yoga doesn’t mean replacing your existing practice. Instead, it gives us another set of tools to build strength through different ranges of movement, introduce external load and develop greater stability and resilience.
The aim isn’t simply to lift heavier or work harder. It’s to become stronger and more capable in the movements we ask of our bodies, whether that’s on a yoga mat or somewhere completely different.
Each hour-long class begins with a dynamic full-body warm-up, incorporating familiar movements such as sun salutations, lunges, balances and planks, with an emphasis on moving well and staying connected to the breath.
From there, we’ll move into focused strength work. Josh’s approach to strength training for yoga uses bodyweight alongside dumbbells, ropes, rings and resistance bands. Exercises are practised in pairs, with several rounds giving you time to understand each movement and find the variation that works for you.
Different options and progressions will be offered throughout, whether that means using support while you build confidence or gradually adding load as you become stronger.
Expect to work across the whole body, developing strength, stability, balance and control, before finishing with deeper stretches and a short savasana.
There may be a few more dumbbells than your usual Tuesday morning yoga class, but the intention remains much the same: moving with awareness and building a body that supports the things you want to do.
I haven’t looked back since my first yoga class with Josh. After dropping in and out (mostly out!) of yoga classes over the years, it has finally become a consistent fixture in my life. – David
Join Josh for Strength for Yoga, our weekly strength training for yoga class at Lime House Yoga in Cornwall.
The class is open to everyone, including complete beginners. You can expect to leave feeling centred and challenged, whatever your level of experience.
Strength for Yoga runs in four-week training blocks. The core programme stays consistent throughout each block, giving regular students the opportunity to become familiar with the exercises, gradually progress them and notice how their strength and confidence change from week to week.
Every four weeks, Josh will introduce a new programme, bringing in different movements and equipment while continuing to work across the major muscle groups. You don’t need to book all four weeks. Every class works as a standalone session and you’re welcome to drop in at any point in the block.
Come regularly and you’ll get the added benefit of progression; come when you can and you’ll still get a complete, balanced strength session.
Join Josh for Strength for Yoga, combining functional strength training with a mindful, yoga-informed approach. Using bodyweight, dumbbells, ropes, rings and resistance bands, you’ll build strength, stability and control to support your yoga practice and everyday movement. Classes run in progressive four-week blocks, but every session stands alone. Drop in at any point, with no previous strength-training experience needed.
You don’t need any previous strength-training experience and you certainly don’t need to be able to do a pistol squat on arrival. Josh will offer variations and progressions for different levels of strength and experience, making the class suitable both for those completely new to strength training and those who already train but would like to explore a more mindful, yoga-informed approach.
