with Fiona Lundie
We were once beginners so we know that joining a yoga class can be daunting. We’ve designed this weekly class to be relaxed & enjoyable while at the same packed full of information that will allow you to learn the basic beginners yoga poses so you can easily and quickly move onto our foundations class or one of our level 1-2 classes and beyond.
Your teacher Fiona is also a chartered Physiotherapist and soft tissue specialist so you are in extremely capable hands. She is able to teach you in a way that is accessible for anyone to join the class*. You can read more about her on her website.
*Please note, this is a largely floor based practice and you will need to be able to get up and down from the ground independently. If you have any other questions, please drop us an email on info@limehouseyoga.com
Our beginners yoga class is designed to give you the foundational elements of a yoga practice whilst being taught in a relaxing environment where everyone is learning something new together. It is designed to build up your confidence and knowledge of the more commonly practised yoga poses and sequences. From learning how to warm up properly, moving fluidly into sun salutations and then guided with step-by-step instructions on the most widely used postures found in a yoga class.
We were once beginners too, so we know that joining a yoga class is daunting – you might even think that everyone is going to be ‘better’ than you. It doesn’t matter what shape you think you’re in, our beginners yoga class is inclusive and friendly. Here at Lime House Yoga, we pride ourselves on making the studio as inclusive as possible and we think that our Beginner’s class is a wonderful introduction to our space and community.
We live and breathe yoga and know what the benefits of a regular yoga practice can bring. We want you to have those same feelings of joy and peace that it leaves us with. No matter what kind of day we’ve had, we can always leave it behind – either temporarily or permanently – by stepping on to the mat, grounding ourselves and feeling present. We would love to share that with you.
This beginners yoga class is also suitable for students who are returning to their yoga practice after a break and want to re-build confidence and re-establish their practice.
If you are unable to make a Tuesday evening then Fiona also teaches Foundations Yoga on Wednesday mornings, 9:30-11am.
Beginner's Yoga is ideal if you are brand new to yoga and don’t know where to start! If you’ve always wanted to come to a class but never quite found the time or the confidence to try, then come to Beginner’s Yoga, where everyone will be learning together. Also ideal for those who have been off the mat for a while who want to re-establish their practice safely and confidently.
“We did a beginners yoga class with Fi and she was just wonderful – her narration and support through the class was thorough. I am not in the best shape and I did not feel conscious of this at any point – Fi’s gentle guidance helped me to use the props to work with my body and afterwards I felt like every inch of me was nicely stretched and worked.”
Fiona (Fi) is a tremendous trio of Yoga Teacher, Chartered Physiotherapist and Specialist Soft Tissue Therapist.
She first started practising as a student of yoga 20 years ago in Australia while travelling.
In 1993 Fi qualified from Bath School of Physiotherapy and after gaining post-graduate experience, spent 12 years living and working in New Zealand. Fi received her training in Soft Tissue, Massage and Sports Therapy in Christchurch in 2006. During her time in NZ she badly injured her back and pretty much had to learn to walk again.
On returning to the UK in 2015, she worked as a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Sports Massage Therapist and a friend advised her to ‘check out Lime House Yoga’. Three years later Fi managed to make it to studio, knocked on the door, was greeted by Jock and felt like she was meeting an old friend. She practiced as student with Jock for a year, before completing her 300hr Yoga Teacher Training here at Lime House in 2019. Her knowledge of anatomy and physiology now plays a strong part in her yoga teachings.
Fi says, ‘I’ve come a long way in a few years under the guidance of amazing teachers and the nurturing environment which is LHY. My favourite practice is morphing and evolving – my basis/foundation in Iyengar is invaluable for rehab and physio. Starting Ashtanga with Jock built up my strength, so while Iyengar makes you stable, controlled, and aligned, the combination of both gives the best of all worlds.
Yoga is infinite. Physio is the centre of my wheel and now yoga surrounds it, keeping everything oiled, keeping it turning.’
Fi teaches:
Beginner’s Yoga – Tuesdays | 6:30-7:45pm
Foundations Yoga – Wednesdays | 9:30-11am.
Unlike stretching or fitness, yoga is more than just physical postures. Yoga is unique because we connect the rhythm of our breath to the movement of the body. Connecting the mind, body, and breath helps us to direct our attention inward.
Through this process of inward attention, we learn to recognize our habitual thought patterns without labelling them, judging them, or trying to change them. We become more aware of our experiences from moment to moment. The awareness that we cultivate is what makes yoga a practice, rather than a task or a goal to be completed. Your body will most likely become much more flexible by doing yoga, and so will your mind.
Yes. If you book you are guaranteed your place in the class. To register for a class you have to select the class you’re interested and then choose either Join Us in Studio or if it’s available, then Book Online.
All the weekly classes are available on the classes page. If you have problems booking then call us on 07774 311227 and we’ll book you into the class of your choice if there is space.
We have studio mats for you to use, however we advise you to eventually buy your own mat. We sell a small select range of yoga mats that we recommend/use ourselves. Cheap yoga mats are ok to start with but you will feel the difference in a high quality yoga mat as it will make your practice far more enjoyable. Cheap thin mats don’t offer the support and comfort that a higher quality mat provides.
Wear comfortable clothing with layers that are easily removed or added to allow for changes in body temperature during class. Be ready to practice in bare feet. This is the traditional (and safest) way to practice. One thing that we would recommend is to wear a top that you can keep on until you warm up and that you can put on at the end of a class, especially for Shavasana (relaxation).
You can find all of our prices on our pricing page.
