The Vinyasa practice links body movement with the breath in a flowing sequence of asanas (postures). Vinyasa translates to ‘place in a special way’. Literally to move in a way that synchronises your breath with the movements of the body.
This is the traditional form of yoga originally taught in India by Krishnamacharya, meaning to move and place in a special way. The practice is dynamic, generating heat within the body with each asana linked to the next by the breath. This class will generally begin with an asana sequence followed by a focus on particular postures such as inversions or backbends to deepen students practice. They finish with shavasana, a relaxation posture.
Jock's flowing, slightly slower paced Vinyasa class pays attention to alignment detail. The class will include sun salutations at a gentler pace and some relaxation/pranayama techniques. Confident beginners are also welcome.
Slow Vinyasa Flow class builds strength, flexibility and mobility for all levels with flowing sequences that enable you to move your body in a variety of different ways. Expect a friendly, upbeat atmosphere and expect to smile!
The Saturday morning class is a counted led practice. The teacher will count in Sanskrit and give clear instruction on how to perform each of the asanas (poses). Each asana in the series has distinct number of movements to move into and out of the ‘state’ of the asana. ie. Trikonasana (triangle pose) has a count of 5 Vinyasa’s to get you from standing at the front of your mat into the ‘state’ of the asana for both the right and left legs and then back to standing at the front of your mat again. (It may sound complicated but once you experience it in class it will make more sense!)
In this slower paced flow we will focus on linking the movement of the body with the movement of each breath. Each class will include moments of stillness or meditation along with finding creative and playful ways to move in and out of poses. This Slow Vinyasa offers accessible shapes with variations for all bodies. Making it a perfect progression from beginners yoga.
Louise's Vinyasa Flow classes link your breath with your body. They are fun, energetic classes that infuse a mixture of Myth (ancient Hindu stories), Mudra (simple hand gestures), Mantra (sounds, words or phrases as an aid to meditation) and some Yoga philosophy. Suitable for all but some experience of yoga will be helpful.
Had an amazing yoga session recently at Lime House Yoga. The studio had such a tranquil feel and the view was amazing. I then had an hour private 1 to 1 with Jock. I have been doing yoga for 5 years but learnt so much more. I can not wait to go back again!
Most definitely not! Practising yoga will make you more flexible but the benefits from regular yoga practice are far greater than flexibility.
EveryBODY can practice yoga. Many people think that they need to be flexible to begin yoga, but that’s a little bit like thinking that you need to be able to play tennis to take tennis lessons. Yoga is more than just stretching, it’s calming, and meditative and as a by-product, you will get stronger and more flexible, but flexibility is only one aspect of it. You will gain strength, coordination and a sense of physical confidence and overall well-being.
We have studio mats for you to use, however, we advise you to eventually buy your own mat. We sell a small select range of yoga mats that we recommend/use ourselves. Cheap yoga mats are ok to start with, but you will feel the difference in a high-quality yoga mat as it will make your practice far more enjoyable. Cheap thin mats don’t offer the support and comfort that a higher-quality mat provides.
Wear comfortable clothing with layers that are easily removed or added to allow for changes in body temperature during class. Be ready to practice in bare feet. This is the traditional (and safest) way to practice. One thing that we would recommend is to wear a top that you can keep on until you warm up and that you can put on at the end of a class, especially for Shavasana (relaxation).

Struggling – we believe yoga should be available for everyone. If you’re struggling, please talk to us.
Yoga is amazing – even if you only practice once a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice. If you can do more than that, you will certainly experience more benefits. We suggest practising as often as you can throughout the week. We have the beginner’s class on Tuesday evening at 6.15 and a Foundations class on Wednesday mornings at 9.30. If you are completely new to Yoga, we suggest starting with one of these classes and then you can add more classes as you feel more confident. You will likely find that after a while your desire to practice expands naturally and you will find yourself doing more and more.
Unlike stretching or fitness, yoga is more than just physical postures. Yoga is unique because we connect the rhythm of our breath to the movement of the body. Connecting the mind, body, and breath helps us to direct our attention inward.
Through this process of inward attention, we learn to recognize our habitual thought patterns without labelling them, judging them, or trying to change them. We become more aware of our experiences from moment to moment. The awareness that we cultivate is what makes yoga a practice, rather than a task or a goal to be completed. Your body will most likely become much more flexible by doing yoga, and so will your mind.
I did my first two teacher trainings with no intention of ever teaching yoga, I just wanted to further my knowledge for my own practice. It was my first teacher Bridget Woods-Kramer who dropped the bombshell on me that she needed cover for a Saturday class that forced me into teaching my first class. I absolutely loved it, completely terrified………but loved it!
It is said that we all come to healing in our own time and this was true for me when in 2000, I fell down a mountain snowboarding, breaking my back in four places and shattering my collarbone. After numerous unsuccessful operations, I decided to take matters into my own hands so that I might stand a chance of being mobile by the time I hit forty.
I began a regular yoga practice and as the ancient saying goes, ‘When the student is ready the teacher will appear.’ I moved back to Cornwall at the same time as Bridget Woods-Kramer, a world renowned Anusara teacher. I spent six years studying and teaching with Bridget and have developed a style that is physically challenging with attention to posture and alignment and above all, playful. My experience has taught me to cherish the physical practice of yoga, but it is the connection between mind, body and soul that inspires my practice.
In the last few years my personal practice has moved towards Ashtanga and have undertaken Ashtanga teacher trainings with David Swenson, Manju Jois and John Scott.
I have been teaching for 19 years and over this time I feel deeply privileged to have been taught by some of the worlds best teachers from a range of different schools of yoga, including Richard Freeman, David Williams, Sianna Shermann, Rod Stryker, Doug Keller, Bruce Bowditch, John Friend, Nancy Gilgoff, and Doug Swenson. In my classes I call upon the teachings of all of my teachers to best serve my own students, with a blend of the styles, techniques and adjustments I’ve learnt along my yoga journey. I am also co-founder and director of Lime House Yoga with my partner Emma and a Dad to two wonderful daughters who constantly inspire and challenge me to be more present in the world and on my mat.

Curiosity, enthusiasm, interest and instinct have guided me towards bodywork and yoga. I am fascinated by the human body and believe that both yoga and massage are truly wonderful experiences and can help us to find harmony with ourselves.
I have exercised most of my life and have felt certain stress relieving benefits but nothing speaks to me as powerfully as the complete well-being that I feel after my yoga practice. I delight in both the movement and stillness that I discover and I find the ‘well-being’ contagious. Yoga calms my mind and I find a deeper way of coming into my body than exercise alone offers. For me it’s the missing piece, that understanding of the union between mind and body.
I had been curious about yoga since I was a teenager where I discovered a friends mother practising. I then spent my life dipping in & out of various classes and styles, even attending pre/post pregnancy yoga classes with both of my children. 8 years ago, I met Jock and so began my regular yoga practice with him. I was immediately drawn to the style of Anusara Yoga and Jock’s wonderful interpretation of it and I knew I was hooked.
In November 2014 I had the privilege of completing my Yoga teacher training with Doug Swenson. Doug began his study of yoga in 1969, the year I was born. His style of yoga ‘Sadhana Chi’ is an evolution of Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Power, Yin and Restorative Yoga with the goal being to create a holistic balance between learning & teaching, power & softness, intellect & fitness. This simple approach resonates a great deal with me and my personal practise is a reflection of his teachings. Some days I have the energy to approach a powerful Ashtanga practice and other days I need the restorative effects of a more Yin based approach but all the while paying particular attention to the correct alignment of my body.
I try to spend as much time as I can with my mat and am excited to be joining Jock to assist and teach on the Yoga FUNdamentals class. As well as teaching yoga I continue to investigate body-centred and spiritual approaches to holistic health using various massage techniques including ‘Thai Yoga Massage’ and the wonderful ‘Chavutti Thirumal’ (massage by foot pressure), also known as the dance of the Hindu god Shiva.
