With our love of food, we would naturally only go somewhere the food was exceptional and the food here is amazing – trust us, we’ve sampled it! The nearest airports are Florence, Pisa and Perugia. The villa is fairly remote so if you want to get out and about to explore the local countryside during your stay, you may consider hiring a car.
Your taxis/airport transfers will need to be arranged independently – a local, trusted taxi driver, Gabriele, is contactable on taxi@sansepolcrotaxi.it It may be worth letting them know that you are part of the retreat for Villa Pia and so can share with any others who require the same transfer.
The retreat hosts Jock and Emma will confirm which flight they are on when they have booked it.
Our retreat venue is set in 5 acres of Italian gardens against a lush backdrop of forests, olive groves and vineyards.
You will either be staying in the main house, which is a 15th century Italian country manor house, once the summer residence for a Florentine family. The large, rustic house plus converted barn and stables provide 17 bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. Every room is unique, retaining original and traditional features and furnishings. The house opens out onto the courtyard, where guests play, relax, have breakfast and lunch, or enjoy an aperitivo.
If you are not in the main house, you will be staying in the beautiful, restored building, “Palazzo Regina”, which is a two-minute walk from the main house.
Guests congregate together for all meals at the main house.
The food served at the retreat is based on a traditional local Italian cuisine. All meals will include a selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options as standard. Vegan, GF or other requirements can be catered for on request.
Food is prepared freshly every day by the wonderful retreat chefs. If you have any food allergies/sensitivities, please let us know. There is a self-service tea & coffee station for guest use. You have the option to enjoy your food either inside or outside in the beautiful garden.
In case you’re hungry outside of mealtimes, you also have 24/7 unlimited access to a fridge full of milk, yoghurt, cereals, bread, butter and jams, fresh fruit and a barista coffee machine as well as wine, beer, liqueurs and spirits.
On Thursdays the kitchen is closed but all of the above is available, plus a staff member can help you book a restaurant or order a take-away. There is also a local bar that makes delicious snacks.
Yes! This Italian yoga retreat is designed for everyone, wether you are travelling alone or with a friend or partner.
If your travelling partner does not practise yoga there is plenty for them to enjoy and lots for you to enjoy together after your daily practise. Relax and read by the pool, play tennis, hire bikes and explore the beautiful countryside or book an Italian cookery class. After your afternoon workshop-style yoga session, we all come together for a delicious 4-course evening meal.
There is plenty of mobile phone and internet access at the retreat venue. There are a range of both indoor and outdoor communal spaces where you can catch up on emails or work should you need to.
The retreat venue offers a pool, tennis court, a library, a music room, therapeutic and beauty treatments, art classes, cooking classes and woodland walks.
It is said that we all come to healing in our own time and this was true for me when in 2000, I fell down a mountain snowboarding, breaking my back in four places and shattering my collarbone. After numerous unsuccessful operations, I decided to take matters into my own hands so that I might stand a chance of being mobile by the time I hit forty.
I began a regular yoga practice and as the ancient saying goes, ‘When the student is ready the teacher will appear.’ I moved back to Cornwall at the same time as Bridget Woods-Kramer, a world renowned Anusara teacher. I did my first two teacher trainings with no intention of ever teaching yoga, I just wanted to further my knowledge for my own practice. It was Bridget who dropped the bombshell on me that she needed cover for a Saturday class that forced me into teaching my first class. I was completely terrified………but I loved it!
I spent six years studying and teaching with Bridget and have developed a style that is physically challenging with attention to posture and alignment and above all, playful. My experience has taught me to cherish the physical practice of yoga, but it is the connection between mind, body and soul that inspires my practice. Over the last decade, my personal practice has moved towards Ashtanga and I have undertaken Ashtanga teacher trainings with David Swenson, Manju Jois and John Scott.
I have been teaching for 20 years and over this time I feel deeply privileged to have been taught by some of the worlds best teachers from a range of different schools of yoga, including Richard Freeman, David Williams, Sianna Shermann, Rod Stryker, Doug Keller, Bruce Bowditch, John Friend, Nancy Gilgoff, and Doug Swenson. In my classes I call upon the teachings of all of my teachers to best serve my own students, with a blend of the styles, techniques and adjustments I’ve learnt along my yoga journey. I am also co-founder and director of Lime House Yoga with my partner Emma and a dad to two wonderful children who constantly inspire and challenge me to be more present in the world and on my mat.
