with Candice Quarmby
We were once beginners so we know that joining a yoga class can be daunting. We’ve designed this weekly class to be relaxed & enjoyable while at the same packed full of information that will allow you to learn the basic beginners yoga poses so you can easily and quickly move onto our foundations class or one of our level 1-2 classes and beyond.
Your teacher Candice is a graduate of the Lime House Yoga Teacher Training programme, and hopes to share with others the overwhelmingly positive effect Yoga has had on her life. She is able to teach you in a way that is accessible for anyone to join the class*. You can read more about her on her website.
*Please note, this is a largely floor based practice and you will need to be able to get up and down from the ground independently. If you have any other questions, please drop us an email on info@limehouseyoga.com
Our beginners yoga class is designed to give you the foundational elements of a yoga practice whilst being taught in a relaxing environment where everyone is learning something new together. It is designed to build up your confidence and knowledge of the more commonly practised yoga poses and sequences. From learning how to warm up properly, moving fluidly into sun salutations and then guided with step-by-step instructions on the most widely used postures found in a yoga class.
We were once beginners too, so we know that joining a yoga class is daunting – you might even think that everyone is going to be ‘better’ than you. It doesn’t matter what shape you think you’re in, our beginners yoga class is inclusive and friendly. Here at Lime House Yoga, we pride ourselves on making the studio as inclusive as possible and we think that our Beginner’s class is a wonderful introduction to our space and community.
We live and breathe yoga and know what the benefits of a regular yoga practice can bring. We want you to have those same feelings of joy and peace that it leaves us with. No matter what kind of day we’ve had, we can always leave it behind – either temporarily or permanently – by stepping on to the mat, grounding ourselves and feeling present. We would love to share that with you.
This beginners yoga class is also suitable for students who are returning to their yoga practice after a break and want to re-build confidence and re-establish their practice.
Beginner's Yoga is ideal if you are brand new to yoga and don’t know where to start! If you’ve always wanted to come to a class but never quite found the time or the confidence to try, then come to Beginner’s Yoga, where everyone will be learning together. Also ideal for those who have been off the mat for a while who want to re-establish their practice safely and confidently.
“Lovely session; Candice was very attentive and was made to feel very welcome at my first yoga class. The group members also very friendly 😊 Lovely studio with amazing views felt really calm and relaxed”
Candice’s Yoga journey started in Singapore in 2010 when a friend invited her to join a Bikram Yoga session. Candice was not exposed to Yoga as a child, nor is it part of her own cultural heritage, but she immediately fell in love and after two years of regular Bikram Yoga she sought out an array of different styles of Yoga- intrigued by the physical skill and discipline that each required.
While Candice’s yogic experience had mostly physical beginnings, with a focus on fitness and skill, regular practice and exposure to fantastic teachers along the way helped Candice to develop a deep respect and love of the mental, emotional and pranic (energetic) benefits of Yoga as well as the history of Yoga. Candice learned the benefits of using mindfulness, meditation and pranayama to help her cope with life’s stresses and challenges.
Over her 7 years living in South East Asia, Candice’s practice took her to many Yoga studios in the region, meeting and relating to yogis and yoginis of various cultures and life backgrounds. Here, she developed an appreciation for the universality of Yoga. Drawing inspiration from all her wonderful teachers, and with a focus on the significance of yogic lifestyle and philosophy in her own everyday life, Candice decided to train as a Yoga teacher in Thailand in 2016, before moving to England and completing further training in Yin Yoga and pre- and post-natal Yoga. She taught regular face to face and online classes at Stamford Yoga, in Lincolnshire, before offering classes to the community of Perranwell Station, in Cornwall. Candice completed a further 300hr Teacher Training course with Lime House Yoga in Cornwall in early 2025 and now holds her 500hr certification.
As she continues to develop as a yogini and teacher, Candice hopes to share with others the overwhelmingly positive effect Yoga has had on her life, through classes in Ashtanga Vinyasa, vinyasa flow, Yin Yoga and pre- and post-natal Yoga. She also works towards authentic appreciation rather than appropriation of Yoga and its roots and history, acknowledging the need for ongoing enquiry.
Candice teaches at Lime House:
Beginners Yoga: Mondays | 6:30-7:45pm
Unlike stretching or fitness, yoga is more than just physical postures. Yoga is unique because we connect the rhythm of our breath to the movement of the body. Connecting the mind, body, and breath helps us to direct our attention inward.
Through this process of inward attention, we learn to recognize our habitual thought patterns without labelling them, judging them, or trying to change them. We become more aware of our experiences from moment to moment. The awareness that we cultivate is what makes yoga a practice, rather than a task or a goal to be completed. Your body will most likely become much more flexible by doing yoga, and so will your mind.
Yes. If you book you are guaranteed your place in the class. To register for a class you have to select the class you’re interested and then choose either Join Us in Studio or if it’s available, then Book Online.
All the weekly classes are available on the classes page. If you have problems booking then call us on 07774 311227 and we’ll book you into the class of your choice if there is space.
We have studio mats for you to use, however we advise you to eventually buy your own mat. We sell a small select range of yoga mats that we recommend/use ourselves. Cheap yoga mats are ok to start with but you will feel the difference in a high quality yoga mat as it will make your practice far more enjoyable. Cheap thin mats don’t offer the support and comfort that a higher quality mat provides.
Wear comfortable clothing with layers that are easily removed or added to allow for changes in body temperature during class. Be ready to practice in bare feet. This is the traditional (and safest) way to practice. One thing that we would recommend is to wear a top that you can keep on until you warm up and that you can put on at the end of a class, especially for Shavasana (relaxation).
You can find all of our prices on our pricing page.
