Re-Starting a Home Practice
(Re) Starting a Home Practice
2nd – 6th September
Jock Orton
Ever tried to practice at home and then realised that you’re not sure what to do? Worried that you may be creating bad habits or worse still, injure yourself? Or maybe your home practice has slipped a little over the summer months and you need a little jump start, then this mini 5 class course is for you.
Each day will sequentially build upon the previous days learning so that by the last day you will have a practice that you will be able to do at home. You will be taught the sun salutations and the standing sequence of the Ashtanga Vinyasa method of yoga.
This workshop series, runs over the course of five mornings (Mon – Fri 7 – 8:30am) and will give you the information and confidence to start (and maintain) a home practice for the rest of your life. As with anything in life laying good foundations will set you up for success, your yoga practice is no different.
If you have ever been to a Vinyasa Yoga class then it has come either directly from or indirectly from Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Now just shortened to Ashtanga Yoga, it is a systematic sequence of predetermined flowing postures linked together with the breath. Intended to be practiced daily, this powerful, healing practice is a specific sequence of postures (asanas) linking breath (pranayama) and movement (vinyasa.) Ashtanga is an athletic flow combining strength, flexibility and stamina for a complete practice.
Ashtanga Yoga is different from many yoga classes in the West in that the order of asanas is completely predefined. A practice will comprise four main parts: “sun salutations and standing postures, ”one of the six main series”, a “back-bending sequence“, and a set of inverted asanas, referred to as the “finishing sequence.” Practice always ends with savasana.
