Breath work for well-being – an introduction to Pranayama
Breath Work for Well-being – an Introduction to Pranayama
with Kali Pearce
Join Kali at Lime House Yoga Studio for a workshop to explore the theory, benefits and practical applications of three yogic breathing exercises to enhance well being.
As well as the many health benefits, the use of proper breathing can help you to connect more deeply with your state of being, thus enhancing your yoga or meditation practice.
The workshop will cover techniques that you can use on a daily basis, or separately as needed, to bring about more peace and presence, release tension, transform negative energy and balance the mind.
What you will learn in this workshop:
- The physiology of breathing and how it effects the autonomic nervous system
- Yogic philosophy on energy systems (prana/vital force, nadis/streams, bandhas/locks)
- Understand how we can use breath work/pranayama as a tool to relax, uplift and balance
- Theory, practice and benefits of Ujjiya / victorious breath applied to the full yogic breath
- Theory, practice and benefits of uddiyana bandha kriya / energy sublimation
- Theory, practice and benefits of Nadi Shodhana / alternate nostril breath
- A short daily practice that you can implement right away with handouts for reference
About your Teacher: Kali
My deep connection with Yoga and Meditation began many years ago with a regular Kundalini & Ashtanga Yoga practice. My passion and quest for knowledge took me to India to study Hatha Yoga with Guru Swami Santhi Prasad, and more in depth studies of Vinyasa, Hatha & Pranayama with inspirational teachers, Heather Elton; and Liza, James & Rory from Tribe Yoga.
As part of my explorative journey to develop a deeper meditation practice, I attended a few vipassana silent meditation retreats which sparked a profound interest in Buddhist mindfulness meditation. Urged by the transformational effects of the practice, I went on to study Yin Yoga & Insight Meditation with Sarah Powers. Along with regular practice, I draw inspiration from wisdom teachers such as: Thich Nhat Hanh, Bhante Gunaratana & The Dalai Lama.
As a surfer, nature lover, healthy eating advocate, green living activist and training in fitness and nutrition, I promote Yoga & health as a holistic way of life and enjoy sharing my passion and enthusiasm with others through my work.
My yoga classes incorporate mindfulness with an emphasis on breath and energy awareness to assist ‘going within’ to draw out the gold from your practice. Themed classes are carefully pieced together using asana, pranayama and occasionally mantra to cultivate a deep connection with your inner being through both dynamic and slow reflective practice to encourage a more spiritual experience.
Suitable for all levels.
