Ashtanga Full Counted Primary Series Class Extension

Ashtanga Full Counted Primary Series Extension Class

This is a class extension to the regular 8.30 – 10am class

This is an extra class that is to be appended to the 8.30 – 10am class so you can be taken through the whole of the seated poses and finishing sequence of the Ashtanaga Primary Series, finishing at 11am.

Why have we added this extra extension to the saturday class?

Simply that there is never enough time to get through the whole of the primary series within the hour and a half of the regular 8.30-10am class. Traditionally if you were practicing the whole of the primary series on your own it could be completed within one and half hours. However in a group lead class there needs to be extra alignment instruction and variations to postures which all takes time. Therefore we have offered you the chance to have an extended class that will give you the time to have the extra instruction and variations need to complete the whole of the primary series.

(Please note: If you just want to come to the regular class then that’s still OK as Jock will tell you when to go into shavasana at 10am, and while you’re in shavasana he will carry on teaching the other students who have signed up to this class extension)

What is Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga is a systematic sequence of predetermined flowing postures linked together with the breath. Intended to be practiced daily, this powerful, healing practice is a specific sequence of postures (asanas) linking breath (pranayama) and movement (vinyasa.) Ashtanga is an athletic flow combining strength, flexibility and stamina for a complete practice.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is different from many yoga classes in the West in that the order of asanas is completely predefined. A practice will comprise four main parts: an “opening sequence,” one of the six main “series”, a back-bending sequence, and a set of inverted asanas, referred to as the “finishing sequence.” Practice always ends with savasana.
