Turkey Yoga Retreat

Turkey Yoga Retreat – 25th May-1st June 2019
Help celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Stillpoint Yoga London

We have been invited by our wonderful friends Scott and Louise at Still Point Yoga London to help them celebrate their 10th year anniversary by joining them at their international spiritual home at Gumusluk in Turkey.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to deepen your yoga practice with two highly skilled and compassionate teachers.

Gumusluk is a beautifully quiet, bohemian fishing village nestled on the west coast of Turkey, on the stunning Bodrum peninsula. Scott and Louise have been taking their students on holiday there since 2011 as it continues to charm people with its laid back and relaxed feel.

Get in touch with Louise if you are bringing your family as we can help with organising. There are special rates for children under 12.

Itinerary

Saturday 25th May 2019 – arrival from 2pm

Saturday 1st June 2019 – departure by 11am

The holiday begins on Saturday 25th May 2019. The week is over the UK school half term so we greatly encourage practitioners who have families that it’s a good time to come and practice with us (Scott and Louise will be bringing their three boys & Jock and Emma will be bringing Abby and Holly) There will be morning assisted ashtanga yoga self practice then free time for the rest of the day (2 optional afternoon workshops are available in the week.)

Daily practice begins on Monday 27th May. Practice consists of mindfulness and pranayama practice (06:15am) followed by assisted ashtanga yoga self practice (07:00am) with Jock and Scott. This will take place from Monday to Saturday. There will also be 3 afternoon workshops (one meeting on the Sunday afternoon as a coming together at the beginning of the week) working on technique and the subtler aspects of yoga throughout the week.

About Jock

Jock has been teaching since 2003 and co-founded Lime House Yoga in Cornwall with his partner Emma.  His journey to yoga came after falling down a mountain snowboarding in 2000, breaking his back in four places and shattering his collarbone. After numerous unsuccessful operations he began a regular yoga practice that enabled him to heal from his injuries and astonished the medical practitioners who had tried and failed to put him back together!

He originally trained with Bridget Woods-Kramer, a world-renowned Anusara teacher with whom he spent six years studying and teaching.  In the last few years his personal practice has moved towards Ashtanga. He’s undertaken Ashtanga teacher trainings with John Scott, David Swenson and Manju Jois. Jock now regularly assists Manju Jois when he’s in the UK at both Lime House Yoga and Stillpoint Yoga in London.  Jock is one of the few teachers to receive both the 500hr certification from John Scott and authorisation from Manju Jois to teach the primary and intermediate series of Ashtanga yoga. He is also a senior yoga teacher and yoga teacher trainer with Yoga Alliance Professionals.

He has developed a style of teaching that has attention to detail in the alignment of the practice but above all is playful. His experience has taught him to cherish the physical practice of yoga, but it is the connection between mind and body that inspires his practice.

About Scott

Scott is also one of only a handful of ashtanga yoga teachers to both be authorised in the primary and intermediate series by Manju Jois, son of K Pattabhi Jois and be given senior teacher status by John Scott, certified by Pattabhi Jois and one of the most recognised and world renowned names in Ashtanga Yoga.

Scott has been teaching Ashtanga Yoga since 2003 and co-founded Stillpoint Yoga London in 2009 with the late Ozge Karabiyik. Scott is the main teacher at SYL and is present every weekday morning.

Scott has undergone extensive training with John Scott and Lucy Crawford since 2002 and is a graduate of their highly regarded 2 month 200hr teacher training programme. In 2015 he became one of the first teachers to receive the 500hr senior teacher certification from John Scott Yoga. Scott is also registered as a senior yoga teacher withYoga Alliance Professionals and has also undergone extensive training with Clear Mind Institute, gaining their level 1, 2 &3 certificate in Mindfulness and Compassion.

Scott’s years of dedicated and committed teaching each morning has led SYL to become a highly respected central London ashtanga yoga shala. He teaches with the greatest of love and respect in the lineage of K Pattabhi Jois which he is connected to through his teachers and friends John Scott and Manju Jois. He meets everyone who comes to SYL and looks to create long term relationships integrating the practise of yoga and embodied mindfulness as a way of meeting the world.
