Cornwall Ashtanga Weekend Yoga Retreat

Extended weekend ASHTANGA Yoga RETREAT – 16th – 20th November 2017

The Retreat

After the success of the June retreat Scott and Jock are teaming up again to bring you another chance to practice and study with them. This is an extended weekend retreat starting on Thursday evening and finishing on Monday morning. This retreat has been designed to be a unique experience that will inspire and give you the tools and motivation to sustain a personal yoga practice. Whether you are just starting out on your yoga journey, or are an experienced practitioner, the weekend will be tailored to deepen your practice. Over the weekend Scott and Jock will combine their years of practice and teaching skills to bring great insight into yoga practice and it’s ability to transform your life.

The Thursday evening will begin with a Dharma talk, setting out the intention for the retreat. Each subsequent day will start with an optional meditation at 6:30am followed by ashtanga yoga assisted self practice between 07:00 – 09:00 with both Scott and Jock on hand to adjust and guide you through the practice. This course is suitable for those who have practiced the (Mysore) Ashtanga self practice method before.

On the Friday, Saturday and Sunday there will be early evening technique classes covering deeper elements of yoga practice and there will also be evening sitting practice and yoga nidra sessions.

When there are no classes the rest of the time is yours, with the option to enjoy the beach and natural surroundings, go on walks, trail runs or go surfing. Breakfast will be at 10:00am and lunch at 1pm

You will be staying 4 nights at the sumptuous brand new retreat centre at Lime House Yoga, near Perranporth, on the north coast of Cornwall. Fully catered for with a delicious menu prepared by the Lime House Chef – take the chance to unwind, rejuvenate and restore body, mind and soul in the gorgeous grounds at Lime House, soaking up the fresh sea air and relaxing in the serene setting.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga that uses a powerful sequence of postures combined
with breath to create an internal heat that opens the muscles and purifies the body. Ashtanga
Yoga is an ancient systematic practice of yoga that slowly builds in difficulty to allow students
to safely access their full potential. Focus on breath, balance, and energy allows students to
bring all their attention to the flow of postures in moving meditation. Ashtanga yoga is a
rigorous, physically demanding practice.

About your teachers

Scott has been practicing Ashtanga yoga since 2001 and teaching since 2003. He is the co-founder and main teacher at Stillpoint Yoga London.

Scott’s teaching is greatly inspired and influenced by John Scott and Lucy Crawford Scott. Scott met John in 2001 and instantly felt the deep connection to the Ashtanga yoga lineage through John’s teaching and his relationship with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Scott connected with John and Lucy in workshops and assisted self-practice weeks through the years, and in 2008/2009 he undertook a 2-month intensive teacher training at their Stillpoint yoga retreat in New Zealand. It was here that Scott met the late Ozge Karabiyik, and between them they created Stillpoint Yoga London. In 2014 Scott became one of the few teachers to receive the 500hr certification from John Scott Yoga to teach the primary and intermediate series of Ashtanga yoga and was recommended by John Scott to be listed on ashtanga.com, a highly regarded website that promotes teachers of Ashtanga yoga around the world.

Scott is registered as a senior yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance UK and he has also undergone extensive training with Clear Mind Institute in Mindfulness and Compassion.

Scott teaches with encouragement, insight and integrity to the Ashtanga yoga lineage, assisting practitioners in discovering how the practice can unfold, not only personally on the mat, but also in the wider context of daily life.

Jock has been teaching since 2003 and co-founded Lime House Yoga in Cornwall with his partner Emma.  His journey to yoga came after falling down a mountain snowboarding in 2000, breaking his back in four places and shattering his collarbone. After numerous unsuccessful operations he began a regular yoga practice that enabled him to heal from his injuries and astonished the medical practitioners who had tried and failed to put him back together!

He went on to train with Bridget Woods-Kramer, a world-renowned Anusara teacher with whom he spent six years studying and teaching.  In the last three years his personal practice has moved towards Ashtanga and he’s undertaken teacher trainings with David Swenson and Manju Jois, whom he recently assisted at Stillpoint Yoga in London.  His primary teacher and friend is John Scott, with whom he has undertaken Level 2 Ashtanga teacher training and practices regularly.

He has developed a style that is physically challenging with attention to posture and alignment and above all, playful. His experience has taught him to cherish the physical practice of yoga, but it is the connection between mind and body that inspires his practice.
