Join senior teacher Jock Orton on this course and be taught when, and more importantly, when not to physically adjust a student. The role of a yoga teacher is to keep your students safe, healthy and to help them reach the best of their ability. A great adjustment it will not only keep them safe but help them experience the pose to the fullest. With experience, adjustments can help students learn new movement patterns that may in turn help them heal from previous injuries.

Course Content: 4 Day Yoga Immersion Join senior yoga teachers Jock and Lucinda for a 4-day yoga immersion specifically designed to offer you the tools to deepen your yoga practice. This course is aimed at yoga students with at least two years of practice and yoga teachers who would like to re-connect with these rich and ancient teachings, providing a solid grounding in the philosophy of yoga. With two teachers and no more than 10 students, the individual attention received by each student will be invaluable for self-development and offers up the chance for radical improvements in the practice and alignment of yoga āsana as well as holding the space for you to examine habits that you may have formed on the mat. This module offers a wonderful opportunity to find out about the historical context for modern day yoga and refine your practice of key standing postures. Ideal for yoga teachers who want to gain confidence in their knowledge of the history and practical elements of yoga, as well as regular practitioners who are wanting to take the next step on their yoga journey. Over the course of 4 days, you will learn about the Universal Principles of Alignment and how to apply these principles in your own practice, to help further your understanding of functional yoga anatomy. In addition, you will be able to enhance your knowledge and practice of breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation, both of which offer which many therapeutic effects for body and mind and provide healing physiological benefits. This 4-day yoga event is part of the Practitioner Immersion Programme and can be taken as a stand-alone module or you can book the whole series of 6 modules. Universal Principles of Alignment Learn the mechanics of this elegant system of loops and spirals to both understand how the body works and enhance your own practice. Refining Your Practice of Standing Poses Each day will begin with a 3 hour workshop, focusing on standing poses. Your teachers will help you to break down and enhance your understanding of how to prepare for each posture with close attention to alignment detail, drawing on the Universal Principles of Alignment. Whether you have been practising for 2 or 20 years, there is always something to learn! Mantra Learn the Guru Mantra – words, melody and meaning and practice it daily Pranayama Further your knowledge and practice of pranayama techniques, including nadi shodana, kumbhaka (retention), counting methods and ratios. This 40-hour course is designed as an intensive immersion into the teaching techniques of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. This course will cover the teaching techniques of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Participants will learn safe and effective hands-on adjustments through partner work for all of the asanas, practicalities of conducting a class and yoga theory. This is a deep immersion into the details underlying the practice and teaching of Ashtanga Yoga. During the course all participants will be engaged in teaching and adjusting each other through. It is a fun and energising experience. There is a wealth of invaluable knowledge to be learned and tools for practice to be gained by all attending. Participants should have a consistent personal practice of Ashtanga Yoga and understand the flow and sequencing of the primary series asanas. The course is not designed as an avenue to learn the sequence but rather to teach Ashtanga Yoga or to deepen an existing practice. As in all courses run by David there is sure to be plenty of laughter and joy woven into the experience.
