A combination of traditional yoga poses, pilates and dance with the use of an aerial hammock, aerial yoga defies gravity and allows you to perform various yoga poses that may be difficult on the ground, but easier in mid-air.

 

It’s fun, acrobatic and its many physical benefits include increasing flexibility, soothing back problems, building strength, improving balance, aiding digestion and can even improve memory!

Aerial Yoga can also help improve many aspects of everyday life, including increasing confidence & overcoming fears.

EARTH – NURTURE
As we are starting to come out of hibernation of the Winter, let’s reconnect and tend to our ‘inner child’- explore, play, challenge and nurture.

EARTH – CREATIVE SPIRIT
The creative force of life on Earth is the Spirit, listen to your heart’s calling and connect to your creative spirit.

AIR – RE-BIRTH
It’s time to invoke the new; with the Spring Equinox on the horizon, this month’s workshop is all about new beginnings and creating balance.

AIR – AIR AND SPACE
In the realm of the flying creatures, the clouds, the sky, earth’s atmosphere.. we too can have the space to fly!
14th May
AIR – FLOW
This month’s seasonal celebration is the ‘Beltane’ festival. The festival of fertility, peak of Spring and peak of Earth’s most beautiful dance, we will celebrate by incorporating dance-flow to our Aerial yoga workshop.
10th June
FIRE – FIRE
As we reach a fire phase of the year with the Summer solstice and honouring the Sun, this workshop is based on the fire within being expansive, owning our personal power and courage. Let the fire light up your soul and all that sparks your joy!
8th July
FIRE – STRENGTH
Reaching fitness goals is a great source of personal strength but we can also look at the strength in embracing self-confidence and abilities to work as a group. In relation to the celebration of ‘Lamas’ expect some aerial yoga play and group games!
2nd September
WATER – WATER ELEMENT
As we delve into the Autumn equinox, let’s recharge and re-hydrate. Using the beauty of water movement, this lesson will feature ‘the waterfall’, ‘raindrop’ and ‘whirlpool’.. names given by myself!
7th October
WATER – CONNECTION
This lesson coincides with the Samhain festival which explores remembrance and re-birth. Expect partner work and ‘Acro-Aerial’ postures.
4th November
WATER – HARMONY
Finding an harmonious lifestyle starts with the self – self-love and self-care.
Self-care is so important, especially as we start to head into the winter months and the need to re-adjust, slow down and tune in.
16th December
EARTH – EARTH
The Winter solstice is a celebration of being alive! Let’s be generous and sociable and thankful for this ever-giving Earth.

4 Week Improver’s Course

Our Aerial Yoga Improver’s course is based on fitness and fun – learning new sequences, flying yoga postures and aerial yoga flow techniques each week.

The four weeks will be split into anatomical yoga themes and focus on specific muscle groups / areas of the body:

Week 1: ‘Personal Power’

It’s the first week back to say ‘hello!’ to that centre! Let’s get straight to the source, this class will target the centrally located area of the body using the muscles that make up the core. Connected to self-worth and optimism for the New Year.

 

Week 2: ‘ Arm, Legs & Booty strengthening’

Firing up the glutes and hamstrings with strengthening and stretching exercises. Enhancing & toning the muscles that propel us forwards…a fun and active flow..Feel the burn!

 

Week 3: ‘ Back relief & inversion therapy’

Be kind to the spine, looking at alignment and safe inversions.
Decompression, detox and expanding into the back space.
Using techniques and progressive variations that strengthen weak, overworked muscles, in turn improving posture & helping ease a painful neck and lower back.

 

Week 4: ‘unlock hips, open heart’

This week we focus on mobilising places in the body that sometimes get stuck. A rejuvenating flow session that is all about the good ‘feels’!

 

Pre-requisite: must have attended at least one aerial yoga workshop in the past.


Suitability

Aerial yoga is not suitable for anyone suffering from any of the following:

Glaucoma, heart disease, propensity to vertigo, very high or low blood pressure, recent concussion, head injury, herniated discs, osteoporosis, sinusitis, recent experience of a stroke and epilepsy.

Nayomi Webb

After a life of dance, yoga and movement-based subjects, Nayomi Webb naturally transitioned aerial yoga, having been introduced to it 8 years ago when living and working in the Caribbean.

 

Nayomi wanted to explore how the traditional yoga postures could be performed in the air and went on to learn her own aerial yoga techniques and style which she now teaches to others.

 

“Aerial Yoga is, for me, a way to tune in and feel present. When I allow myself to completely trust and let go, the flow of postures and sequenced movement can be extremely therapeutic and meditative.”
