Join us for 7 days to learn from the worlds most senior authority on Ashtanga Yoga as Manju guides you to “Unite with Yourself”. Manju will introduce the original Sanskrit counting method, helping students learn the correct breath sequence of Primary Series. A combination of meditation chants, pranayamas and asanas make each practice session the purest experience of Ashtanga Yoga. The Shanti Mantras, or Vedic Peace Chants, spread the benefits of practice beyond the self. Taking the time to learn and repeat the Shanti Mantras is very powerful -- having occasion to practice them with others is astounding. Manju offers truly authentic guidance for all who wish to follow Ashtanga’s life-enriching path to Enlightenment.
Manju’s dedicated life long mission is to provide training for students and teachers in the ancient traditions of authentic Ashtanga Yoga. He is honoured to offer guidance to all who wish to learn and benefit from Ashtanga Yoga’s ancient and time-honoured practices. Manju’s teaching style is spiritual, intensive, inspiring and humorous. He is renowned for assisting students deeper into poses. He honours the ancient Ashtanga tradition and teaches his students with clarity and enthusiasm.
This retreat is suitable for students with a regular Ashtanga practice and for the first four days will be Mysore Style Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (assisted self-practice) at the Lime House Yoga Studio followed by a larger group led-practice for the Saturday and Sunday when we will move to the Z-Shed in Penryn. The two led practices will be a mixture of Primary and Intermediate series. Senior teachers Scott Johnson (Still Point Yoga London) and Jock Orton (Lime House Yoga) will be assisting Manju at the larger group led practices. Transport will be provided for residential students to take them to the Z-Shed studio at Penryn.
Ashtanga Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga that uses a powerful sequence of postures combined with breath to create an internal heat that opens the muscles and purifies the body. Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient systematic practice of yoga that slowly builds in difficulty to allow students to safely access their full potential. Focusing on breath, balance and energy allows students to bring all their attention to the flow of postures in a moving meditation. Ashtanga yoga is a rigorous, physically demanding practice.
Manju Jois is the oldest son of Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Manju Jois began his own personal yoga practice at the age of 7 with his father as his teacher and began teaching at the age of 15. He has taught continuously throughout the world for over 57 years.
Manju is dedicated to his mission of teaching the ancient tradition of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, for a total mind-body-spirit unification with Self. Manju and his father brought Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga to America in 1975 and Manju has traveled worldwide teaching this tradition. Pattabhi Jois was taught yoga by the legendary teacher T. Krishnamacharya, who also taught B. K. S. Iyengar, Indra Devi, T. K. V. Desikachar and A. G. Mohan who all have carried on these teachings worldwide.

The food we serve at The Retreat is organic, colourful, healthy and most importantly tastes amazing. We are passionate about supporting our local food suppliers and growing our own produce in our vegetable garden and polytunnel. Predominantly vegan, we love trying new recipes so that no two days are the same.

Your payment includes a non-refundable deposit of £125. In the event you cancel 60 days or more prior to the retreat the remaining balance will be refunded. In the event you cancel less than 60 days prior to the retreat payments are not refundable. By booking you agree to abide by our full terms and conditions which can be read here.
Residential prices are based on two people sharing a room and includes accommodation, full board and yoga. Single supplements are available for a 50% charge. The price excludes travel and transfers.

I’ve known Kathy Cooper for approximately 32 years. She is one of a handful of Ashtanga Yoga practioners who has learned the Advanced A and B sequences. I have been teaching Ashtanga Yoga for 35 years. In that time, I have taught less than a dozen people the entire four series. One of these people was Kathy Cooper.
